Metal Gear Solid Review

Metal Gear Solid revolves around the character Snake. He's on a covert mission to stop terrorists from launching a nuclear weapon. The game starts off as Snake is forced out of retirement again to stop these terrorists, shortly after this he's on a stealth sub on the way to Shadow Island (a secret weapons test site). On the way he's briefed on the mission about how FOX HOUND (see Character list) have taken over the island in the hopes to steal Metal Gear. Metal Gear is a new revolutionary two-legged walking battle tank, which can fire a nuke from anywhere on the face of the earth.

One of the points that he's briefed on is that it's a one man mission, though actually there is another person there, the generals niece Meryl. The way in which to contact people is to use your CODEX. The codex is a device that uses frequencies from other codex to work. You operate the codex by pressing the SELECT button. Don't worry about writing down a new frequency when you get them, this new fancy codex has a memory so that any idiot can use it.

As I mentioned before, the game revolves around Snake, a lone hero up against impossible odds, so the only way he's gonna be able to win is to hide. This game has some of the best features I've ever seen - the ability to duck, crawl, tap on walls to lure guards, hide in the back of trucks, hide in cardboard boxes anything to be sneaky, you can even use a suppresser on your gun so you don't make any noise.

When playing the game you use the L1 button to cycle through items and the R2 button to cycle through weapons. There's a button to crawl/duck, there's a button to punch which doubles as a button to break guards necks, a fire button and a first person view mode (all are changeable).

The bosses are very cool to fight in this game, all are different to kill and several you fight twice. All leading up to the end fight with Metal Gear REX which is cool as well. Some bosses use punches, some you shoot, one boss you kill with a sniper rifle, one's in a Hind D it's a helicopter and the list goes on.

All in all, these features make Metal Gear Solid probably the best game ever at least the best shooting and strategy game ever (maybe better than Perfect Dark ([and that says a lot]). Plus it easily has one of the best story lines of any games I've played and that my friends have played. Though of course if this type of game doesn't tickle your fancy, then I don't suggest you buy it, but even if you're going "yeah that sounds alright" then I suggest you go out and get it.

This is a great game to play with a friend the only problem is that you'll end up playing for about twenty-four hours straight. Which in this case is a good thing.
